Anonymous Letter

Community leaders along Oregon’s coast are speaking out against an anonymous letter encouraging racial profiling of undocumented immigrants. The letter falsely claimed to promote a government-backed “round-up,” urging residents to track and report “brown folks” at churches, stores, and workplaces. Officials, including the Oregon Attorney General and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, have denounced the letter as hateful and divisive, reaffirming a commitment to inclusivity and safety for all. Oregon is a sanctuary state, where law enforcement does not collect or share immigration status. Leaders are urging residents to reject hate, stand united, and report bias incidents to the state’s Bias Response Hotline. These hateful acts, they say, are isolated and do not reflect the values of coastal communities.

Mapleton Boil Water Notice

Residents in the Mapleton area above Orchard on Chestnut Street are under a boil water advisory due to a power outage at the boost pump, causing a loss of water pressure on December 26. This precaution is in place as potentially harmful bacteria may be present, posing risks, especially to those with weakened immune systems. Customers should boil water for one minute and cool it before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or cleaning food. Bottled water is also recommended. Full power to the booster pump is expected within 24 hours, with test results available by January 3. Follow all advisory instructions to ensure safety.
