Corporate Transparency Act on Hold

Florence businesses, take note of recent updates to the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) and Beneficial Ownership Information Report (BOIR) requirements. While the filing deadline was initially set for January 1, 2025, recent court decisions have temporarily halted enforcement. On December 23, the U.S. Court of Appeals reinstated BOIR requirements, extending the deadline for pre-2024 companies to January 13, 2025. However, just days later, on December 26, the court reversed its decision, reinstating a nationwide injunction. As of now, businesses are not required to file BOIR reports, though voluntary filings through FinCEN remain available. The situation is evolving, so stay tuned for updates. The Florence Area Chamber of Commerce is also paying close attention to this.

Boil Water Notice Rescinded

Test results Monday morning confirmed that water above Orchard Street in the Mapleton Water District is safe to drink.  A “boil notice” had been in effect since Thursday afternoon after a loss of water pressure in the distribution on Chestnut Street.  A power outage to the pump pressurizing that section of the system meant potentially harmful bacteria could have been present in the water supply.  Full power was restored within 24 hours, but Jordan Walker with Mapleton Water District said it would take a few days to get conclusive evidence that no bacteria was present.  That evidence came Monday morning.

New Head for State and County Elections

Lane County Clerk and Elections Director Dena Dawson will be moving to Salem in January where she will become Oregon’s elections Director.  She will succeed current elections director Molly Woon who was appointed by former Secretary of State Shemia Fagan.  Incoming Secretary of State Tobias Read told Woon earlier this month she would not have a role in his administration.  Dawson has been with Lane County a little over two years and will take a lot of experience with her when she moves up to the state level.  Originally from Pueblo, Colorado she has served as elections director for the City of Denver and several other counties, including Multnomah County from 2012 to 2014.  Read says Dawson brings a “wealth of experience” to her role.    He will be sworn in January 6th; Dawson will move into her new position January 21st.  Lane County Commissioners and administration will choose her successor.
