Viking Basketball
The Siuslaw Viking girl’s basketball team lost to Bandon last night at the Bandon Dunes Tournament. 58-12. Game two for the girls is against South Umpqua at noon today.
The Viking Boys were on the court against Santiam Christian yesterday afternoon. It was an epic battle with the Vikings falling short 56-54. Today they face Myrtle Point at 1:30. The tournament concludes tomorrow with games yet to be determined.
College Basketball
The Oregon Ducks sputtered through last night’s game against Illinois even with the Duck’s Supreme Cook adding 20 points on the night. 5 illinois players were in double figures as they put 109 points on the boards against the Ducks 77.
The Oregon State Beavers dropped their bid against Loyola Marymount 82-61.
Viking Wrestling
Siuslaw Vikings wrestlers have added a meet today for the North vs South Crossover Duals they then head to Pleasant Hill tomorrow for the King of the Hill Invitational.
Mapleton Sailors Basketball
The Mapleton Sailors boy’s basketball team opened league play with a dominant 53-31 win over the Mohawk Mustangs Thursday night at the Sailor Dome. After a tight first quarter with the Sailors leading 9-6, the team exploded for 20 points in the second quarter, highlighted by Senior Alex Burnett’s half-court buzzer-beater, giving Mapleton a 29-16 halftime lead. Freshman Kamdam Wilson led early with 11 points and three steals, while Burnett finished with 17 points, including three three-pointers. Despite injuries leaving the Sailors with only five players, they out-rebounded Mohawk and controlled the game’s pace. Mapleton starts league 1-0 and hosts the Siletz Valley Warriors this Saturday at 5:30.
Sailor Girls also won their game against Mowhawk 47-26
