Viking Basketball
Viking basketball was in Glide on Friday and the boys came away with the victory. 3 ball players were in double figures with Michael Felkins led the way with 18 points. Gave DeLeon added 18 and Chaz Edblom had 13. Winning 63-25. The Viking Girls put up some good numbers but were defeated 39-22.
Sailor Baskteball
The Mapleton Sailors boys dominated the Alsea Wolverines 52-32 Saturday night at the Sailor Dome. They stormed out to an 11-0 lead, with Roenin Barrows scoring eight early points. Mapleton’s defense was relentless, racking up 21 team steals. Senior Alex Burnett led the way with 20 points, six steals, and five rebounds. Dom Stewart added 10 points and eight boards. The Sailors, now 8-2 in league play, look to continue their momentum when they rematch Alsea on Tuesday at the Wolverine Den. The Sailor girls will host North Douglas this evening
Viking Wrestling
The Siuslaw Lady Vikings made a strong showing at the Harrisburg All Girls Wrestling Tournament, finishing seventh among 18 schools despite having just four competitors. Danin Lacouture and Macali Lade both claimed championships, with Lacouture pinning both opponents at 140 pounds and Lade securing three pins at 120. Abby Riggs placed third at 115 with a 4-1 record. Siuslaw tied Cascade with 73 points, while Dallas took first with 211.5. Up next, the Lady Vikings compete in Cottage Grove the next two weekends, leading to district championships on February 14-15.
The Siuslaw Vikings wrestling teams wrapped up a busy week with standout performances on Saturday. Nine boys competed in a 10-team tournament at Junction City, with three Vikings claiming individual titles. Leo Robertson dominated at 150 pounds, Gage Mills secured his first-ever tournament win at 190, and Jacob Mann pulled off an impressive victory at 215, defeating top-ranked 3A wrestler Taj Flora of Sutherlin in a hard-fought final. Gabby Sweet also delivered a strong showing, earning third place in the 285-pound division.
Nebraska Beats Oregon
The Oregon Ducks are on a 3 game slide after losing last night to Nebraska at Matthew Knight Arena 77-71. The Ducks are now 5-6 in the Big 10.
