Viking Sports:

The Siuslaw Viking boy’s basketball team handed Sutherlin a defeat on Friday moving them into a tie for first place in the Far West League.  The Vikings are now 5-1 in league play. Gave DeLeon dropped 19 for the Vikings, Justin Allen had 16 with 5 3-pointers and a free throw. Chaz Edblom had 13 before fouling out.

The Viking girls lost to Sutherlin 50-13.

Siuslaw wrestlers put on a strong showing at the Cottage Grove Invitational over the weekend, with senior Macali Lade and junior Jacob Mann winning their respective weight class titles. The Vikings girls placed sixth out of 26 teams, scoring 69.5 points, while the boys tied for 19th in a 28-team field with 64.5 points. Lade, the top seed at 120 pounds, won her championship match with a pin in just over four minutes. Mann, seeded third at 215, secured his title with a 7-3 decision. The girls return to Cottage Grove for district competition this weekend, while the boys compete in Elmira on Feb. 22.

College Basketball

The Oregon Ducks slid even further down in the Big 10 over the weekend with a Saturday loss to the Spartans of Michigan State 86-74  the Oregon State Beavers were outgunned by St. Mary’s 63-49.
