Jensen Wins Decathlon

Siuslaw junior Kale Jensen claimed the title of “King of the Mountain” Saturday, winning the Mondo Track Club Decathlon at Summit with 5,891 points over two days. That total ranks third all-time in Viking history. Jensen led after Day One and secured first place in both the high jump and pole vault. He posted personal records in seven of the ten events—six of them events he was competing in for the first time in high school. Spokane’s Erik Borg was second, and Crook County’s Eli Oelkers third.

Viking Baseball

Siuslaw Viking baseball split a double header on Saturday in Toledo against the Boomers. In game one Jacob Mann earned the win for the Vikings giving up four hits and 3 runs over 5 and a third innings.  He also doubled scoring two runs. Toledo was down by 6 runs and managed to work its way back almost overtaking the Vikings, final 7-6.  Game two for the Vikings had a much different tone with the Vikings only managing 1 run and giving up 11. Zak Nilles took the loss for the Vikings lasting just 3 innings and giving up 7 runs on 5 hits.  The Vikings next game is Wednesday against North Bend.

Softball

Viking softball went down swinging on Friday against Taft dropping both games of the double header 17-10 and 22-7  they will face Newport tomorrow.

College Baseball

The Oregon State Beavers dropped the series with Nebraska over the weekend. In yesterday’s rubber match the Beavers and Cornhuskers traded innings with the lead going back and forth with the beavers leading 7-6 in the 7th until Nebraska flooded 9 runs in the bottom of the inning.  They added one more in the bottom of the 8th to take the victory from the Beavs 16-7

The Oregon Ducks went 1-2 over the weekend taking the first game from Ohio State 7-0 but losing the next two games  11-10 and 8-6.
