Healthcare Workers Needed

Oregon does not have enough healthcare workers, and the need continues to grow. And union members say retention is a key cause of the shortage and they are lobbying for two bills in Salem to improve job quality across the industry. Over the next 10 years, healthcare and social services will need to bring in nearly 225-thousand workers, according to the Oregon Employment Department. SEIU’s Matt Swanson says meeting the growing demand will take every possible intervention.

I heard from many workers about how tired they are, how difficult it is to provide quality patient care when there just aren’t enough people working. “

One bill at the top of the union’s priority list would address unchecked workplace violence that healthcare workers experience at a higher rate than any other industry. Another would expand funding to allow providers to continue to work while going to school for advanced training.  The Bills are scheduled for public hearings this week in Salem.

Search for Missing Man Continues

The Lane County Sheriff’s Search & Rescue team continues efforts to locate 63-year-old Jonathan Allen House of Eugene, last seen March 15th in the 25600 block of Hall Road, west of Cheshire. Over the past nine days, crews have searched roughly 500 acres of rugged terrain and 50 miles of road, using drones, K9 teams, and ground crews. Cell phone data and area camera footage have also been reviewed. House is described as 5-foot-10, 150 pounds, with gray hair, blue eyes, and a mustache. He was last seen wearing a hooded coat, jeans, and work boots.
