Viking Double-Header
The Siuslaw Vikings baseball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh for an 8-7 walkoff win and a split of Saturday’s doubleheader with visiting Sweet Home. The Huskies took game one, 6-4. In the nightcap, Max Reynolds tied it with a one-out double before Joel Sissel drove in the game-winner with a bases-loaded single. Reynolds finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs. Freshman Coleman Weidman earned the win in relief. The Vikings, now 2-5, play at Newport on Tuesday and host Elmira Friday.
Girl’s Basketball Coach Named
Siuslaw Middle School teacher Amanda Richards has been named head coach of the Siuslaw High School girls basketball team. Richards, in her second year with the district, teaches seventh-grade math and brings coaching experience from JV volleyball and varsity softball. She previously coached girls basketball for six years at Eisenhower High in Kansas. A former player from Tennessee, Richards is committed to building a strong program and community support. She takes over for former head coach Aaron McNeill.
Oregon Relays
Siuslaw Vikings track and field athletes shattered records Friday at the Oregon Relays in Eugene. Senior Clayton Wilson broke a 57-year-old school record in the two-mile with a time of 9:20.02. Alison Hughes and twins Addison and Macy McNeill now rank 1-2-3 in school history in the event. Wesley Nicholls posted the top 3A 200 time this year at 22.64 and helped lead the 4×400 relay to the fastest 3A time so far. Maya Wells and Danin Lacouture also turned in standout efforts. Aidell Cadet ran her first 300 meter hurdles for the Vikings with a time of 50.25. Coach Chris Johnson says it is the 15th fastest all time for a Viking and a marvel for a first time participant. College Baseball
The OSU Beavers took two of three from UC Irvine over the weekend taking the rubber match on Sunday 7-4.
The Oregon Ducks won their series against Michigan, but lost the Sunday matchup with a barn burner. The two teams combined to produce 23 runs with the Wolverines on top 12-11.
