Wilson Breaks School Record

Siuslaw senior Clayton Wilson ran the fastest 1,500 meters in school history Saturday, leading the Viking boys to a second-place team finish at the Roseburg Twilight Invitational. Wilson clocked 3:57.72 to edge the previous record set in 2014 and also won the 800 in a personal-best 1:57.01. Will Johnson won the triple jump at 42-8, while Kale Jensen placed second in the long jump and 300 hurdles. Maya Wells led the Lady Vikings with a second-place finish in the 800, as the girls placed ninth overall.

Siuslaw Golf

Siuslaw freshman Mason Wright tied for first place Friday at the Siletz Valley Golf Invitational, carding a 7-over-par 43 with a closing birdie at Agate Beach Golf Club. No team scores were kept in the nine-hole developmental event featuring 35 players from eight schools. On the girls’ side, Macali Lade led the Lady Vikings with a 109 at Thursday’s Cottage Grove Invitational, helping Siuslaw to a ninth-place finish. The Viking boys return to action today at the Special District 2 meet in Keizer.

Baseball/Softball

Elmira senior Josey Robbins hit a two-run homer in the first inning to lift the Falcons to an 8-6 nonleague softball win Friday over Siuslaw. Seniors Abby Riggs and Claire Lindell each had two hits for the Lady Vikings, who collected 13 hits but fell to 1-9. In baseball, Elmira capitalized on a dropped pop-up to beat Siuslaw 6-2. Max Reynolds went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, and Zak Nilles struck out seven over six innings. Both Viking squads open league play tomorrow at South Umpqua.

College Baseball

The Oregon Ducks won their series against Maryland finishing yesterday with a 13-3 victory.  The Oregon State Beavers swept Cal Sstate Fullerton but allowed 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth yesterday to put a scare in the team, but they held them off 9-8.
