Charter School Board Meets
The Siuslaw Valley Charter School Board of Directors will meet Monday, April 21st at 3 p.m. at the school’s administration office on Laurel Street in Florence. The agenda includes policy discussions, curriculum updates, and an executive session on property matters. The board will also review a set of reference check questions for future use in candidate evaluations. Financial reports show a net loss of just over $9,400 for March, with $200 in donations and over $9,600 in expenses. Despite the shortfall, the school’s assets total more than $373,000. ODOT Offers High School Seniors Job Opportunities
The Oregon Department of Transportation is accepting applications for its High School to Highway program, a full-time, paid training opportunity for high school seniors and recent graduates. Starting in July, participants will earn over $3,800 a month while learning hands-on roadway maintenance skills alongside ODOT crews. The program runs in multiple locations across Oregon, including Roseburg, Bend, Seaside, and The Dalles. Applications are open through April 24. Forestry Plan Finalized
The Oregon Department of Forestry has finalized revised Implementation Plans for several state forest districts, including Western Lane, which covers the Veneta and Southwest units. The updates follow a 30-day public comment period that ended March 21. ODF received 28 comments addressing topics such as forest management, wildlife, roads, and climate change. Revisions reflect public input and align with the draft Habitat Conservation Plan. The updated plans guide forest activities through fiscal year 2027, including timber targets, restoration efforts, and species protection strategies.
Easter Events
Two Easter events are happening in Florence this weekend for kids and families. On Saturday, April 19, the Rotary Club of Florence will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at 10 a.m. at Miller Park. The event is open to the public and welcomes children of all ages for a traditional community egg hunt. Then on Sunday, April 20, First Baptist Church of Florence will hold an Easter celebration at 1935 East 25th Street. The morning begins with a 10 a.m. Easter service, followed by an egg hunt at noon for children ages 0 to 11. Additional activities include games, an inflatable obstacle course, Easter basket drawings, and free hot dogs and chili.
