Viking Softball
The Siuslaw Lady Vikings softball team ended a nine-game losing streak Friday with a dominant 17-7 win over Sutherlin in the second game of a home doubleheader. The Lady Bulldogs took the opener 11-9 in the Far West League matchup. With the split, Siuslaw improves to 2-17 overall and 1-8 in league play, while Sutherlin moves to 4-13 and 2-7 in the Far West standings. Up next, the Lady Vikings travel to Coquille on Tuesday to open a three-game series. Coquille enters the week 1-15 overall and still searching for its first league win at 0-9.
Viking Baseball
The Viking Baseball team dropped both of their double header games on Friday against the Bulldogs. Losing game one 12-6 and game two 7-4. Sissell recorded the loss for the Vikings in the first game with Nilles taking the loss in game two. The Viking baseball team will be idle this week and return next week for a three game series against Glide.
Track and Field
Senior Viking Track and Field’s Wesley Nichols took second place in the 100 meters at Friday’s Central Invitational at Siuslaw High School. With a time of 11.2 setting a personal record. Freshman Randy Thrall finished 4th. Nichols then took first place in the 200 meter with a time of 22.85. Ramond Brito-xilot took third. Senior Clayton Wilson took the 800 meters with a personal record time of 1:54.57 and freshman Henry Stone came in third with a time of 2:06.07. the viking boys took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place in the 1500 meter led by freshman Sailor Jensen with a personal record 4:24.52. he was followed by two other freshmen Bentlye Nelson and Ezra King. The Vikings dominated the 110 meter hurdles with senior Michael Felkins with a personal record 16:30 followed by Kale Jensen and Justin Allen in second and third respectively. Felkins also finished second in the 300 meter hurdles with a personal record 45.53. sophomore Davian Frazier finished third. The 4×100 team of Johnson, Felkins, Nicholls and Brito-Xilot took first place with a time of 43.64. sophomore Caleb Gray won the Javelin with a toss of 158’1” Junior Kale Jensen took the High Jump with a leap of 5’10” Will Johnson set a personal record 13’7” in the pole vault earning him top billing followed by senior Justin Allen at 13 even. The Long jump was won by Kale Jensen at 21’2” and Will Johnson finished in second place at 20’9” Johnson then took the triple jump at 45’0.5” followed by teammates Justin allen and Davian Frazies. For the girls in the 100 meter senior Auvi King set a personal record with a 4th place finish in the 100 meter at 14:73. Junior Keira Johnson took 3rd in the 200 meter with a time of 31:19. Freshman Jori Twombly took second in the 400 meter 1:09.72. senior Maya Wells won the 800 meter 2:30.41 and Allison Hughes won the 1500 in 5:08.06 followed by Addison McNeill in second and Macy McNeill in 4th. Siuslaw had 7 finishers in the top 10. Aidell Cadet took first in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles. Danin Lacouture tossed the shot put for a first place 34’8” she also threw the discus 103.6 inches to lead the Vikings who had the top 4 spots. Aidell Cadet also took the high jump at 4’10” and Keira Johnson took the pole vault at 8’6” Cadet won the triple jump with apersonal record 34’3.5’ and Kylee Stinger took second in the long jump and triple jump.
College Baseball
After losing the first game the Oregon Ducks won games two and three from the Michigan State Spartans 13-5 and 3-1. The Oregon state Beavers won games 1 and 2 in Hawaii but lost last night 5-0. They play again this evening. The game will air on KCFM beginning at 9pm.
