Sports On Despite Rhody Fest; Klampe In State Championships; Sneddon Added to Hall of Fame

Sports On Despite Rhody Fest

While it is Rhododendron Festival Weekend, there are still several important sporting activities happening.  Tomorrow the Siuslaw Vikings track and field team will be heading to Cottage Grove for the Wally Ciochetti Invitational. This will be the last regular season tournament before the special district championships next week.  The Viking softball and baseball teams will be in Glide to finish off the season in baseball.  Neither viking team is in the running for post season play, marking the end of the season for the Vikings.  The baseball games will air on KCST beginning at 2:45.

Klampe In State Championships

Siuslaw High School senior Ryan Klampe has qualified for the OSAA 3A/2A/1A Boys Golf State Championships for the fourth consecutive year. Klampe secured his spot by tying for medalist honors at the Special District 2 tournament held at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, posting scores of 70 and 74 over two rounds. The state championships are scheduled for May 19–20 at Trysting Tree Golf Club.

Sneddon Added to Hall of Fame

Bob Sneddon, the longtime “Voice of the Vikings,” will be inducted into the 2025 Siuslaw Sports Hall of Fame. Since 2002, he’s brought Siuslaw High School football and basketball games to life on the radio. A 1975 SHS graduate, Sneddon has also served the Florence community through the city council, school board, fire department, and more. A full tribute and retelling of Sneddon’s history has been written by Siuslaw Hall of Famer Don Hunt. And can be found on the Coast Radio Website.
