Gazebo Work

The City of Florence is moving forward with replacing the aging gazebo at Old Town Park on Bay Street. Originally installed in 1989, the current structure has weathered decades of coastal exposure and is showing significant wear, including dry rot. Public Works staff began removal of the gazebo in May, with site preparation now underway. A new 16-foot octagon gazebo from Amish Country Gazebos will take its place, featuring a metal roof, ADA-accessible ramp, and a concrete foundation. According to a May 25th update, crews have completed excavation for the new foundation and are scheduled to pour concrete footings and slab on Thursday, May 29th. Temporary park closures may occur during construction, which is expected to finish by late June. The project is partially funded by the Central Oregon Coast Board of Realtors.

FRAA Survey

The Florence Regional Arts Alliance is seeking public input as it crafts a new strategic plan aimed at strengthening the arts community and boosting local economic vitality. FRAA invites residents—artists and non-artists alike—to participate in an online survey by June 20th. Organizers say the feedback will help guide future efforts to unify and support all forms of art in the region. The survey is available now at fraaoregon.org, and results will be shared publicly once finalized.

Offices Closed

Offices for the city of Florence will be closed today in observance of Memorial day.  As always, essential employees from Florence Police and Public works continue to provide services, but administrative functions will be back open on Tuesday.

FURA to Hear Hotel Update

The Florence Urban Renewal Agency will meet this Wednesday at City Hall with an update on the Quince Street Hotel development. Assistant City Manager Megan Messmer will introduce Matt Braun, who will brief the agency on the project’s progress. Following the initial presentation, FURA will recess into executive session under Oregon law to discuss real property transactions. Once the open session reconvenes, the board will continue discussion and provide staff with direction on the hotel development moving forward.
