College World Series
Oregon State returns to Omaha for its eighth Men’s College World Series appearance—and its first under head coach Mitch Canham, who helped the Beavers win national titles in 2006 and 2007 as a player. OSU faces Louisville tomorrow night in just their second-ever meeting. The Beavers are 21-12 all-time in Omaha and enter the game with 103 home runs on the season, plus standout postseason performances from Trent Caraway and Gavin Turley. Volleyball Events
Siuslaw Volleyball is ramping up summer action with a series of scrimmages and training opportunities. Varsity scrimmages at Marshfield tonight at 5:30, followed by home scrimmages against Reedsport and Mapleton on June 17, and a road trip to Reedsport on June 19. Summer training begins July 1 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. at SHS. Players must register on Final Forms. Upcoming events include the Blue & Gold Fundraising Scrimmage, a brand-new Alumni Scrimmage, and the 2nd annual Volleyball Camp for incoming 6th–12th graders. Full details at siuslaw.k12.or.us.
Hall of Fame
Everett May, a standout four-sport athlete at Siuslaw High, will be inducted into the Siuslaw High School Hall of Fame on August 22nd. A 1969 graduate, May helped set a state-meet record in the mile relay in 1967 and still holds school football records from his senior season in 1968. He also earned honors in basketball and was part of a state cross-country title team. The induction ceremony begins at 5:30 p.m. in the SHS gym, with doors opening at 5.
