Duck Softball
The Oregon Ducks softball team is adding a major weapon to its roster. All-American slugger Elon Butler is transferring from Cal to Oregon for her senior season in 2026. Head coach Melyssa Lombardi made the announcement Wednesday. Butler, a standout from San Jose, helped lead Cal to three straight NCAA Tournament appearances. She’s a career .328 hitter with 37 home runs, 112 RBI, and 28 stolen bases over three seasons. In 2024, she hit three home runs against the Ducks in a single series. Lombardi says Butler’s power, speed, and defensive versatility make her a game-changer for the Ducks.
Nike Nationals
Siuslaw’s Henry Stone capped an impressive freshman season by running the sixth-fastest mile in Viking history Thursday at the Nike Outdoor Nationals at Hayward Field in Eugene. Stone finished the Freshman Mile in 4 minutes, 28.92 seconds—good for 23rd out of 71 runners and the fastest time ever by a Siuslaw freshman, surpassing Mitchell Butler’s 2011 mark. Three other Vikings are also competing at the national meet, representing Wakonda Track Club: Kale Jensen in the decathlon, Will Johnson in the triple jump, and Caleb Gray in the javelin. Competition continues through Sunday.
