Siuslaw senior-to-be Kale Jensen has ascended to the top of the Vikings’ all-time decathlon list with a score of 6,330 points at the Nike Outdoor Nationals & USATF U20 Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene. Jensen set three personal records Friday—including a 144‑foot, 5‑inch javelin throw and a 4:37.53 1,500-meter run—propelling him past Hall of Famers Tyler May and Joe Dotson. His two-day effort included a 2,978-point second day, following a 3,352-point first day, showcasing his versatility across hurdles, discus, javelin, pole vault, and distance. Jensen’s stellar performance marks a new era for Siuslaw track, cementing his place in school history.
Vikings Trap Shoot Champions
The Siuslaw Vikings won the Class 1A novice team title Saturday at the Oregon Trap Shooting State Tournament in Hillsboro, scoring 330 points to top McLoughlin and North Powder. Macie Moore led the Vikings with a score of 71, earning top overall female novice honors and placing seventh overall. Teammates Logan Eichelberger and Karmyn Kyleberg added scores of 70 and 67, with Noah Craig and Riley Stanger contributing 61 each. In junior varsity, Timothy Morgan Mendolia shot 80 to tie for 14th, while William Grable led Siuslaw varsity shooters with an 81.
