Operation Dry Water
The Oregon State Marine Board, State Police, and Sheriff’s Offices statewide will participate in Operation Dry Water, July 4th through 6th. The national campaign targets boating under the influence of intoxicants—whether alcohol, marijuana, prescription meds, or other substances that impair safe operation. Environmental stressors like sun, wind, and wave action can amplify those effects, raising the risk of accidents and drowning. Penalties for BUII include up to a $6,250 fine, jail time, and loss of boating privileges. Officers can require breath, blood, or urine tests if impairment is suspected. Marine Board safety manager Brian Paulsen says most fatalities this year involve hazardous water and not wearing a life jacket.
Lane County Credit Card Debt Low
A new study by SmartAsset ranks Lane County among the Oregon counties with the lowest credit card debt. The analysis compared credit card balances to both income and net worth, highlighting where residents are managing credit most effectively. Researchers gave greater weight to the ratio of debt to net worth, offering a broader view of financial stability. Lane County’s high index score indicates residents here carry relatively low credit card debt compared to what they earn and own.
