Ems Up 2 in Series
The Eugene Emeralds defeated the Vancouver Canadians 4-1 Wednesday night, taking a 2-0 series lead with five games remaining over the next four days. Eugene has now won 20 of their last 25 games to start the second half and holds a 5.5-game lead in the Northwest League standings heading into today’s double-header. Jonah Cox sparked the offense early with his league-leading 39th stolen base, and Drew Cavanaugh delivered again with a two-run double in the 5th. Cavanaugh has 7 hits and 7 RBIs through the first two games. Greg Farone earned his first win with five scoreless innings, and Ben Peterson closed it out with four strikeouts over two frames. Today’s twin bill begins at 1:05 PM with Dylan Carmouche starting Game 1.
Jagoe Makes Way for Change
After helping revive the Siuslaw Athletic Booster Club, President Cameron Jagoe will step down on August 23 during the group’s annual meeting and auction at Three Rivers Casino. Jagoe says it’s time for someone new to lead the all-volunteer club, which he’s helped rebuild alongside vice president Londi Tomaro, treasurer Carl Frazier, secretary Deanna Frazier, and membership chair Terri Mason. Upcoming events include a fundraiser this Saturday at PK Park in Eugene and the Siuslaw Sports Hall of Fame induction on August 22 at the high school. Auction items and table sales are still available.
