City Council Meeting
At tonight’s Florence City Council meeting, officials will consider renewing a five-year contract with Axon Enterprises for the police department’s body-worn camera program. The updated $127,551 agreement includes full equipment replacement, continued technical support, and secure digital evidence storage through Axon’s Evidence.com platform. Since its launch in 2020, the program has enhanced transparency and de-escalation efforts. The cost will be paid in annual installments, and city staff recommends approval to maintain compliance with state law and ensure upgraded technology through 2030. Council meets at 5:30 at City Hall.
The City Council will consider approving the purchase of a 2026 Ford Police Interceptor Utility Hybrid for the Florence Police Department at tonight’s meeting. The $69,591.46 total includes vehicle cost and upfitting with emergency equipment. The hybrid SUV offers improved fuel efficiency, reduced engine wear, and enhanced officer safety. Purchased through the OregonBuys program, the City saved over $8,000 off MSRP. Funding is already included in the current budget, and staff recommends the Council authorize the City Manager to proceed with the purchase.
National Night Out
Tomorrow night is National Night Out, a nationwide event that began in 1984 to promote police-community partnerships and crime prevention. In Florence, the Police Department will host the celebration at Miller Park from 6 to 9 p.m. The evening features food, games, safety demonstrations, and a chance to meet local officers, firefighters, paramedics, and public works staff. It’s a family-friendly event that brings neighbors together and highlights the shared responsibility of keeping the community safe.
