Ems Win

The Eugene Emeralds opened their road series with a 5-2 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils, snapping their opponent’s five-game winning streak and extending their Northwest League South lead to nine games. Starter Josh Bostick was dominant, striking out a career-high 14 batters — the most in the league this year — and retiring 15 straight at one point. Eugene broke a 1-1 tie in the fifth inning with a wild pitch and a two-run homer by Drew Cavanaugh. Jose Ramos added a solo shot in the seventh. Austin Strickland earned his third save of the month, closing the door despite late Dust Devils threats.

Duck Football

Oregon football continued preseason camp indoors Tuesday as Eugene saw triple-digit heat. Head coach Dan Lanning announced defensive back Trey McNutt broke his leg and has had surgery, with a possible return later this season, while receiver Jurrion Dickey is indefinitely suspended citing behavioral issues. Lanning praised the offense for bouncing back after the defense won Saturday’s scrimmage and credited strong leadership from players including Kenyon Sadiq, Bryce Boettcher, Dante Moore, Dillon Thieneman, and Iapani “Poncho” Laloulu.
