Veteran Services Grant Funding

The Oregon Department of Veterans’ Affairs is now accepting proposals for a new round of Veteran Services Grant funding. The Legislature approved nearly $973,000 to support organizations that provide free services to veterans across Oregon’s rural, urban, and Tribal communities. Grants of up to $250,000 will be awarded to programs that improve outcomes in health care, housing, employment, education, transportation, and other critical services. A webinar with more information will be held September 11, and the application window closes October 13.

Gas Prices

Oregon’s gas prices have slowly increased since the Labor Day holiday.  Prices around the state are averaging $4.13 a gallon for regular.  Florence is following the state average with gas prices around $4.12 a gallon. Crude oil prices are around $62 a barrel.  With the majority of the travel season behind, refineries are now beginning the switch to winter fuels which can be as early as the 15th of September.

Building Earthquake Safe

Governor Tina Kotek has signed Executive Order 25-22 to ensure state buildings can withstand a major earthquake. The order directs the Department of Administrative Services to develop plans requiring new state facilities over 10,000 square feet to meet the highest seismic safety standards. According to experts Oregon faces significant earthquake risk in the next fifty years, and resilient state buildings are critical for emergency response and recovery. Kotek says safe facilities will allow state employees to continue essential services, while the experts call this move a proactive step toward preparing Oregon for the inevitable Cascadia earthquake.
