City Council Meeting
At Monday evening’s Florence City Council meeting, councilors will recognize the retirement of longtime Public Works Director Mike Miller and issue proclamations for Constitution Week and National Crisis Responder Week. Citizens may offer public comments on items not on the agenda before the council considers key action items, including a Safe Routes to School construction contract and new on-call engineering service agreements. The consent agenda includes approval of previous meeting minutes and acceptance of a grant for life detection radar. A continued public hearing is also scheduled later in the evening. Council meets at City Hall at 5:30 Monday.
Floodplain Hearing Continues
Also at Monday’s council meeting, a continued public hearing will be held on proposed floodplain code amendments required by FEMA. Ordinance Number 9, Series 2025, would update Florence City Code to comply with the National Flood Insurance Program and Endangered Species Act requirements. The changes are aimed at achieving “no net loss” of floodplain functions — meaning no additional fill, impervious surfaces, or loss of trees in flood-prone areas. The proposal follows months of planning commission hearings, council work sessions, and a public forum at the Florence Events Center earlier this year. Councilors can choose to adopt the ordinance, delay the decision, or continue the hearing to a later date. Citizens may submit written or verbal comments as the hearing resumes.
