SOS New Space

Siuslaw Outreach services is preparing to move into their new offices on 12th street.  Executive Director Bob Teter says the new Siuslaw Area Resource Center will serve as a one-stop campus for vital community services.

“It’s really going to be kind of another community center in town because there’s a lot of shared spaces, a lot of spaces that can be rented out by community groups. We’ve already got a waiting list for some of those spaces.”

The building, once home to the Florence Church of the Nazarene, is being transformed into a hub where multiple agencies can work together under one roof. The center will feature offices, telehealth rooms, classrooms, and spaces for support groups, training, and community events. Teter says centralizing resources will make it easier for families, veterans, and low-income residents to access help with housing, employment, and crisis assistance. The facility will also honor the Siuslaw Tribe, with signage in English, Spanish, Braille, and the Siuslaw language, along with tribal artwork on display. Siuslaw Outreach Services, which has supported more than 2,000 local residents annually since 1986, expects the new center will strengthen collaborations and transform the way services are delivered on the Oregon Coast. There will be a Grand Opening and dedication on Monday September 22nd at 4:30. 1536 12th street.

Gas Prices

Gas prices continue to climb as refinery issues, maintenance, and a pipeline leak continue to affect prices. Just last week in Florence, the average price for regular gasoline jumped twenty-five cents per gallon. According to AAA, Oregon saw the steepest one-week increase in the nation, with statewide prices rising sixteen cents overall. Analysts say the sharp uptick is being driven by tight supplies across the West Coast, where several refineries are offline and the Olympic Pipeline has faced disruptions. Relief may come in the weeks ahead as winter-blend fuel reaches stations and refinery maintenance wraps up.
