Viking Volleyball

The Siuslaw Vikings varsity volleyball team struggled in their match against South Umpqua, falling in straight sets by scores of 23-25, 23-25, and 20-25. Despite holding leads of up to 10 points in the second and third sets, the Vikings were unable to close them out, with missed serves and sloppy play proving costly. Stella Duman led the team with 11 kills, six digs, and an ace, while also completing all of her serves. Freshman Maren Hughes added three kills with a .500 hitting efficiency and a solo block. Danin Lacouture contributed with strong serve receive and nine digs.

Viking Soccer

The Siuslaw boy’s soccer team earned a strong win over Elmira after falling behind early on a lofted shot. Keeper Terrance Masterman came up big, stopping a penalty kick to keep the Vikings close. Kale Jensen then scored twice before halftime, with assists from Camden Linton and Aris Lade. In the second half, Siuslaw controlled the tempo and added four more goals — two from Kale Jensen and two from Sailor Jensen — for a total of six. Masterman finished with seven saves as the Vikings’ defense held Elmira scoreless the rest of the way.  The girl’s also had a good stand against Elmira finishing with an 8-3 win.
