Viking Soccer Closes Out Regular Season, Prepares for Playoff

The Siuslaw boy’s soccer team is moving on in the postseason after a 5-2 win over North Valley at Hans Petersen Field on Saturday. After falling behind early on a penalty kick, the Vikings answered with goals from Sailor Jensen and Asher Borgnino, sending the match into halftime tied at two. Siuslaw took control in the second half with a strong possession game. Camden Linton put the Vikings back on top, followed by two more goals from Borgnino — including a late penalty kick to complete the hat trick. Keeper Terrance Masterman made several key saves, helping Siuslaw secure the victory. The Vikings advance to face Dayton in the second round on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Dayton High School.

Undefeated League Season for Viking Football

The Siuslaw Vikings closed out the regular season as undefeated Special District 4 champions, improving to 7-and-2 with a 56-34 win over Coquille at Hans Petersen Field. Senior Will Johnson led the way with four first-half touchdowns — three through the air and one on the ground. Quarterback Jericho Lake added both a rushing score and three passing TDs, while Jaxon Chiang and Caleb Gray each ran in touchdowns to power the Vikings’ offense. Siuslaw now turns to the postseason and will host Gervais in the first round of the OSAA 3A state playoffs this Friday night.

OSU Over Washington State

Oregon State made it two straight wins with a gritty 10-7 comeback over Washington State Saturday night. Running back Anthony Hankerson capped the rally with a two-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter, finishing with 134 yards on 25 carries for the Beavers. OSU’s only other points came from a 35-yard Caleb Ojeda field goal in the second quarter. The Beaver defense controlled the night, holding the Cougars to just two third-down conversions and coming up with six sacks and two interceptions — both by Jaheim Patterson. Aiden Sullivan and Kord Shaw each recorded eight tackles as Oregon State improved to 2-7. The Beavers return home Saturday to host Sam Houston at Reser Stadium.
