Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club and Coast Radio Sports congratulate senior soccer forward Asher Borgnino as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Asher scored 5 goals last week in two games including a hattrick is Saturday’s playoff win against North Valley. Along with winning the ball, creating space and excellent passing.
Honorable Mention
Honorable mention goes to Collin Barnett Collin had a phenomenal game on Friday. Controlling the line of scrimmage on offense. He was also named the offensive lineman of the year for the league.
OSU Basketball
Oregon State men’s basketball edged out North Dakota State 67-65 in a tight season-opener Monday night at Gill Coliseum. With the game tied in the final seconds, Josiah Lake II drove to the hoop and scored with two seconds remaining to secure the win. Lake finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, one of five Beavers in double figures. Isaiah Sy led OSU with 12 points, and newcomer Dez White posted 10 points and five assists in his debut. The Beavers shot 44 percent, holding the Bison to 39, and have now won all 12 season openers under head coach Wayne Tinkle. Oregon State hosts UIC on Friday.
Lady Ducks
The Oregon women’s basketball team opened the season with a dominant 100-59 win over West Georgia at Matthew Knight Arena. Five Ducks scored in double figures and all 13 players who saw the floor made at least one basket. Transfer Mia Jacobs led with 16 points and six rebounds in her Oregon debut. Katie Fiso posted her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 assists, and the Ducks forced 32 turnovers with 24 steals to fuel their high-tempo attack. Head coach Kelly Graves said the team’s defensive energy set the tone. Oregon has now won 13 straight season openers. The Ducks continue their homestand Saturday against Montana.
