Hoyle Votes Against Continuing Resolution
U.S. Representative Val Hoyle of Oregon’s Fourth District voted against the latest Continuing Resolution, saying it failed to address what she called an impending Republican-driven health care crisis. The measure does not extend the Affordable Care Act’s Enhanced Premium Tax Credits, which are set to expire at the end of the year. According to Hoyle, that could leave about 50,000 people in the 4th district facing sharply higher premiums or the loss of coverage. In a statement, Hoyle said the bill ignored working families and instead included unrelated provisions added in the Senate. She said she would continue advocating for affordable health care for residents of the Central and South Coast.
OCF Grants
The Oregon Community Foundation says its Community Grants program will open applications for the 2026 Spring Cycle from December 2, 2025 through January 13, 2026. This round of funding will prioritize small rural organizations, culturally specific groups, and culturally responsive programs. Key dates, funding priorities, application questions, sample responses, and review criteria are now posted on the Community Grants website. According to organizers, an online information session will be held on Thursday, December 11 from 3 to 4 p.m., with a recording available afterward on the foundation’s site.
Free Meal Thanksgiving
The Kiwanis Club of Florence will host the Annual Florence Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 27, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Florence Elks Lodge on 12th Street. The meal is free for anyone in the community. Organizers say the dinner will be available for both dine-in and to-go, giving residents the option that works best for them. There is no delivery service planned this year. Volunteers will be on hand throughout the event, and those who wish to support the effort may bring cash donations or dry and canned food items for local food share programs.
