Tele-stroke Services
The Florence Community is awaiting the benefit of a new piece of equipment that will help in the assessment and treatment of stroke. The telestroke program is active through PeaceHealth Sacred Heart and is awaiting more funding to implement it here in Florence. The machine allows for a consultation with a stroke specialist when one is not available locally. Eileen Siegler is the PeaceHealth Foundation fundraiser for Florence and she says the goal is near.
“So we have 57,000 right now toward about a 100,000 price tag we’ve done pretty good in reaching out to some other donors and getting some matches and that is going to be available if they would like to participate.

Florence Festival of Trees
The Oregon coast military museum is getting ready for its annual Florence festival of trees on December sixth. organizer Jennifer Brandenberger with the beaded path says the event will be slightly scaled back in terms of the number of large trees up for auction, but the excitement and opportunities will be just as strong.
“We’re gonna have a silent auction, we’ve got a dessert auction, then the tree auction. one of our local churches will be singing Christmas carols. it will be a great event we need the people to buy the tickets to come.”
the celebration will be held at three rivers casino. tickets are available at the beaded path on highway one-oh-one and thirtieth street, or at Florence shipping solutions in the Grocery Outlet Shopping Center. individual tickets are forty-five dollars, or a table of eight is three-hundred-twenty.
Exploding Whale
Florence will mark the 55th anniversary of the exploding whale this Sunday with a community gathering at Homegrown Public House & Brewery. While not the exact anniversary date, organizers say it’s the closest day they could come together to honor the historic 1970 attempt to dispose of a beached sperm whale with dynamite — an explosion that sent whale blubber raining across the shoreline and later became one of Oregon’s most enduring stories. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m., with award announcements at 2:30 and a community toast at 3:45. Displays and activities will highlight the legacy of the incident, which has inspired everything from songs and documentaries to the dedication of Exploding Whale Memorial Park.
