Festival of Trees
The Oregon Coast Military Museum is preparing for its Annual Festival of Trees Gala on Saturday, December 6th at Three Rivers Casino Resort. The event runs from 5 to 9 PM and features decorated trees, holiday atmosphere, and community support for the Museum. Organizers say about half of the available tickets have already been sold and they’re hoping for a last-minute rush, even as the date shares space with several other events happening around Florence that night. Tickets are forty-five dollars per person or three-hundred-twenty dollars for a reserved table of eight, available at Shipping Solutions and The Beaded Path on Highway 101. Proceeds support the Museum’s work in preserving and sharing the region’s military history.
Animal Watch
Highway 126 from Florence to Eugene can be dangerous enough, but fall migration adds an extra risk for drivers each year. The Oregon Wildlife Foundation is reminding motorists that while the peak danger typically falls in November, wildlife movement continues into early winter and remains a concern. Officials estimate about five-thousand large animals are struck and killed on Oregon roads annually. Foundation leaders say slowing down at dawn and dusk and watching for crossing signs can reduce collisions, as deer and elk often travel in groups. Proceeds from Oregon’s Watch for Wildlife license plate help fund projects that make roads safer for both people and wildlife, including crossings and fencing.
Gas Prices
The national average for regular gas has dipped below $3.00 a gallon for the first time in more than four years. AAA reports the national average is now $2.998, driven by lower crude oil prices, seasonal slow demand, and the full reopening of the Olympic Pipeline. Oregon’s average has fallen to $3.79 a gallon, and prices in Florence are averaging around $3.50 for regular. Officials say last month’s pipeline shutdown had only a small impact on the region, and prices are expected to continue easing through December. The 400-mile pipeline carries gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from Washington refineries into Oregon and has now returned to normal operation after repairs near Everett.
