Safe Holiday

Holidays may be a time for good cheer and family, but there are some who want to take that away from you — and if you’re not careful, they just might. When shopping, it’s important to protect your purchases by keeping them out of sight, locking your vehicle, avoiding secluded parking areas, and staying aware. And even though it’s not generally a huge problem in Florence, Police Chief John Pitcher says it does happen here.

“We have a certain group of people that will always take advantage if they get that crime of opportunity and if somebody sees packages in the back and the car is unlocked they are going to get in.”

Chief Pitcher says it’s also important to have a plan for package delivery. Get a friend or neighbor to collect a package if you can’t be home. Know your delivery times, and don’t leave packages on the porch for too long. Chief Pitcher shares more of his holiday advice this week on Our Town.

Business License Renewal

The City of Florence has sent out Business License Renewal emails to all registered businesses. The message comes from License Registrar, the City’s official business license registration portal. Business owners are encouraged to review the email carefully and make sure their information is up to date before submitting their renewal. Renewals are due by January 2, 2026, and completing the process early can help avoid any delays in processing at the start of the new year. Additional details, including links to the renewal portal and general licensing information, can be found on the City’s website at www.ci.florence.or.us.
