Viking Basketball
On the first day of the Bandon Tournament, the boys faced Umpqua Valley Christian and picked up a 47-41 overtime win. The team struggled for much of the game but elevated their play in overtime to secure the victory. Jericho Lake led the scoring with 23 points, including 6 three-pointers. Asher Borgnino added 10 points, and Tom Morgan finished with 6.
The Lady Vikings were held to just 10 points against Umpqua Valley dropping the game 52-10. Play continues today for both Viking teams. The Mapleton Sailors will be back in action today. The boys and girls will both face Eddyville charter.
Orange Bowl Victory
Oregon is one win away from playing for a national championship after shutting out Texas Tech 23-0 in the Orange Bowl on Thursday. The Ducks dominated defensively, allowing just 215 yards and forcing 4 turnovers for their first postseason shutout since 1917. Oregon led 6-0 at halftime, then pulled away with 2 second-half rushing touchdowns by Jordon Davison. The Ducks advance to the College Football Playoff semifinals in the Peach Bowl in Atlanta. They will face #1 Indiana who handed the Ducks their only loss of the season. Indiana routed Alabama 38-3 in yesterday’s Rose Bowl.
College Basketball
Oregon Ducks men’s basketball will be on the air this afternoon beginning at 4pm on KCST. The Duck men are in Maryland. The Lady Ducks hosted Northwestern on New Year’s day winning 87-54. The Oregon State men’s basketball will air on KCFM this evening beginning at 6:30. The Lady Beavers will host Pacific this evening.
Wrestling
Viking Wrestling will be in Junction City tomorrow for the Phil Smith Memorial Invitational.
