Siuslaw senior Danin Lacouture turned in the Vikings’ best finish at the Rollie Lane Wrestling Invitational in Nampa, Idaho, placing second at girls 140 pounds. The tournament featured more than 90 schools from six states. Lacouture went 5-1 with four pins, improving to 16-3 on the season, and scored 31 of the Lady Vikings’ 43 points as the team placed 39th overall. In other weekend action at the Phil Smith Memorial Invitational in Junction City, Gage Mills placed third at 215, Quentin Stidham finished fourth at 190, Gabby Sweet took fifth at 285, and Waylon Griffiths placed sixth at 120.

Siuslaw Basketball

The Siuslaw Vikings boy’s basketball team claimed third place Saturday at the Bandon Dunes Holiday Invitational with a 45-35 win over host Bandon. Siuslaw is now 7-6 on the season and will travel to Toledo on Tuesday. On the girls side, the Lady Vikings closed out the tournament with a 39-31 victory over South Umpqua. Siuslaw is 5-8 heading into its final preleague games, Tuesday at Toledo and Friday at home against Harrisburg. Far West League play for the Lady Vikings begins Jan. 15 at Sutherlin.

College Hoops

Nate Bittle scored 16 points as Oregon’s defense held Maryland under 28 percent shooting in a 64-54 road win Friday night. The Ducks are now 8-6 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play. They face Rutgers this evening at 3:30 on KCST.

Oregon State men’s basketball lost to Washington State 81–67 Sunday night in Spokane. Dez White led the Beavers with 16 points as Oregon State fell to 8–9 overall and 1–3 in WCC play.
