Wright Choosing Not to Seek Re-election
9th District Representative Boomer Wright says it’s time for a changing of the guard. Wright announced he will not seek reelection, citing health concerns and a desire for he and his wife to travel. He says he plans to finish out his term through 2026 before stepping away.
“I’ll finish out 2026 with a variety of things I already have cooking and then we’ll go from there.”
The Republican lawmaker is throwing his support behind former Siuslaw graduate Claire Lynn, who is expected to formally announce her candidacy soon. Wright says Lynn is familiar with the district and has been politically active.
“She’s a good one. I’m looking forward to having her in office and carrying on what I have been doing. We have the same thoughts and values and direction on where to go and interests, so I think she’s gonna be a good one.”
Before leaving office, Wright says one of his top concerns is the referendum on the gas tax. He says he’s worried it could be hijacked before reaching voters and plans to fight to ensure it makes it to the ballot.
Work Session to Focus on FLOCK Cameras
The Florence City Council will hold a work session Thursday, January 22, at 8:30 a.m. at Florence City Hall to continue discussion on the City’s use of the Flock Safety automatic license plate reader camera system. No action will be taken at the work session, though the topic could appear as an action item at the next regular City Council meeting on February 2 at 5:30 p.m. City officials note the January 22 meeting will not include verbal public comment, but written comments will be accepted. Materials and recordings from a prior special meeting on the issue are available through the City’s Agenda Center.
Town Hall for County Clinic
Lane County Public Health’s Jason Davis says the county will host a town hall meeting to discuss a potential property purchase for a treatment facility in Florence. The meeting is set for January 20 at 6 p.m. at the Florence Events Center and will focus on the county’s proposed purchase of property at 4480 U.S. Highway 101, the former site of a medical office, and plans for a medication-assisted treatment clinic. County officials say the town hall will include project timelines and an opportunity for community members to provide feedback. The meeting is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
