Viking Basketball
The Siuslaw Vikings boys basketball team picked up a strong preseason win Friday night, defeating Harrisburg 55-39 at Glenn Butler Court. The Vikings have now won four of their last five games and improve to 9-6 on the season. Head coach Dylan Perry said it was the team’s best performance so far and a strong way to close out preseason play heading into league action. Siuslaw opens Far West League play on the road Thursday at Sutherlin, followed by games at Coquille January 23rd and South Umpqua January 27th. The Vikings return home January 30th to face Glide.
The Viking girls were defeated by Harrisburg 53-23.
Mapleton Basketball
Mapleton will be in Triangle Lake this evening for a game that was cancelled last week due to icy conditions in Triangle Lake. The girls will be up first at 5:30 followed by the boys.
College Hoops
Oregon’s women came up just short Sunday, falling 85-81 to fifteenth-ranked Michigan State at Matthew Knight Arena. Katie Fiso scored 20 points, with Mia Jacobs and Sofia Bell adding 18 each, but the Spartans closed the game with a late run to secure the win.
Oregon State’s defense dominated Friday as the Lady Beavers rolled past Seattle U 68-38 at Gill Coliseum. Kennedie Shuler had 18 points and seven steals, while Oregon State limited the Redhawks to just 23 percent shooting and extended its winning streak to seven games.
