Sailors Break Losing Streak

The Mapleton Sailors boys basketball team snapped their losing streak Thursday night with a 53-22 win over Siletz Valley. Mapleton jumped out to a 17-0 first quarter lead and held a 29-11 advantage at halftime. The Sailors led 43-16 after three and moved to 1-0 in league play. Roenin Barrows led the Sailors with 19 points, followed by Kam Wilson with 17 and Toni Garcia Galvan with 11.

Sailor Girls Roll on Siletz Valley

The Mapleton Sailors defeated Siletz 63-15 in a team win with every Sailor scoring. Lucie Burruss led the Sailors with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 steals, her 17th straight game with multiple steals. Arista Bernhardt added 11 points, and Amira Green scored 10 in the win.

Viking Basketball

The Siuslaw Varsity Vikings lost to the Sutherlin Bulldogs 55-24 on Thursday. Aidell Cadet led Siuslaw with 11 points, hitting 7 of 10 free throws. Siuslaw trailed by 12 at halftime, with Sutherlin pulling away on a second-quarter run and controlling the boards for second-chance points.

The Viking boys dropped their league opener in a tight fought battle Bulldogs outlasted the Vikings 49-47.

Nick Lutz Invitational Wrestling

The Nick Lutz memorial invitational wrestling competition opens today at Siuslaw High School. 23 teams will compete. Coach Neil Wartnik:

“We are going to have a lot of great wrestling.  We’re going to have a girls tournament, we’re gonna have a JV tournament we are going to have a boy’s varsity tournament. Wrestling will start at 11 each day and we’ll knock off about 7.”

College Hoops

In college basketball the Duck will host #4 Michigan tomorrow at 12:30 on KCST. The Beavers will be in California to take on Pacific at 2:30 on KCFM. The Lady Beavers lost to LMU last night 55-51. And the Lady Ducks lost to #11 Iowa 74-66
