Viking Basketball
Friday night, the Siuslaw Viking boys basketball team dominated Sutherlin, cruising to a 53-31 win. Jericho Lake led all scorers with 23 points, the only Viking in double figures. Micah Blankenship added 9, and Tom Morgan finished with 6. The Vikings are back home tomorrow night as they take on Coquille.
In the girls matchup, Siuslaw came up short against Sutherlin, falling 49-29.
Mapleton Basketball
Mapleton Sailors will be on the road tonight for a non-league matchup against Siletz Valley. While mapleton has completed league play, there are still several teams in the Mountain West League that have league games this week.
Wrestling
The Siuslaw boys and girls wrestling teams wrapped up their final regular season tournament over the weekend, turning in several standout performances despite dealing with illness and injuries. Jacob Mann led the way, defeating returning state and U.S. Open champion Carson Langford of Dallas on his way to a tournament title in the 215-pound division. The 7-5 win marked the biggest victory of Mann’s career according to coach Neil Wartnik. Gage Mills also posted a major win, pinning returning state champion Lake Mulberry of Philomath in the consolation finals at 190 pounds. On the girls side, Danin Lacouture placed second at 140 pounds, while Molly Mills finished fourth at 125, and Emma Ford placed fifth at 105.
College Hoops
The Oregon Ducks men’s basketball team fell on Saturday to Purdue 68-64 and will have a game this evening against Indiana beginning at 5pm on KCST.
Gonzaga defeated the OSU Beavers on Saturday 81-61.
Portland defeated the lady Beavers on Saturday 53=50 and the Lady Ducks fell to #9 ohio state 80-64.
