Viking Boys Hold Own Destiny

The Siuslaw Vikings boy’s basketball team kept its postseason hopes alive Tuesday night with a 59-35 win at Glide. The victory pulls Siuslaw into a second-place tie with South Umpqua in the Far West League with one game remaining. Douglas defeated South Umpqua 56-50 and can clinch a perfect 10-0 league season with a win in Florence Thursday. The Vikings could secure the league’s second state playoff berth outright with a win, or a tie in the standings could force a playoff. Thursday is also Senior Night, honoring six Viking seniors.

One Last Game for  Viking Girls

The Siuslaw Vikings girl’s basketball team closes out the regular season Thursday night, hosting Douglas on Senior Night at Glenn Butler Court. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., with both teams entering at 2-7 in Far West League play and battling for sole possession of fourth place. Tuesday, Siuslaw fell at Glide 52-25, while Douglas edged South Umpqua 26-23. The Lady Vikings defeated Douglas earlier this month 34-23. Thursday night, Siuslaw will honor its lone senior, co-captain Mia Snider, who has been sidelined this season with a knee injury.

Mapleton Basketball

The Mapleton Sailor boys will find out where they stand in the post season picture tonight with a game against league rival Triangle Lake.  the Sailors are sitting alone in second place, but still have to win tonight.  the Sailor Girls will have a game on Saturday for the league Championships but their opponent has not yet been determined.
