Authorities are trying to confirm the identity of a body found drifting in Woahink Lake yesterday afternoon. Siuslaw Valley Fire and Rescue responded shortly after one pm after a passerby spotted what appeared to be the body of a man floating near the first bridge on Canary Road, just off Highway 101. Using their rescue boat, they were able to secure the body, but then waited nearly four hours until an investigative team from the Lane County Sheriff’s Department could respond. Authorities reached a tentative ID at the scene but were awaiting notification of relatives. A pickup with Pennsylvania license plates was parked nearby and officials believe it may have been related to the deceased. Authorities have not said whether or not foul play may be involved.
