Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
MADRAS, Ore. (AP) – More firefighters are battling a wildfire
that has burned more than 900 acres in central Oregon. The Sandy
Fire District says Clackamas County firefighters were dispatched
about 3:00 this morning to the Elk Fire, which broke out yesterday
afternoon and was spread quickly by the wind in brush on BLM
property. Dispatchers say it burned an outbuilding and threatens
other structures.

MCMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Yamhill County deputies say a man who
started a 5-acre fire by setting of fireworks will likely be fined
and have to pay firefighting costs. The 37-year-old from New Mexico
was charged with reckless burning for yesterday’s fire north of
Sheridan. The sheriff’s office says he was inspecting a home he
recently inherited from his father and found a box of fireworks.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says a
man rolled his car on a Forest Service road near Pringle and then
fled the area on foot, leaving four children at the scene – three
girls ages 13, 10 and 8 and a 2-year-old boy. The children got out
yesterday and were helped by friends. One of the children was hurt.
Medics took that child and the three other children to St. Charles
hospital in Bend. The man returned to the crash scene a short time
later and was arrested for drunken driving and other charges.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Friends of a Silverton High School student
who died in an ATV crash on the family farm painted a bench in
front of the high school in green and yellow John Deere colors in
his memory. Seventeen-year-old Bradley Jensen — an FFA student —
was working Saturday on the farm near Silverton when his
four-wheeler ATV hit a hole and threw him over the handlebars. He
died Sunday.
