PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An off-duty Portland police officer has
been arrested on a drunken driving charge. Clackamas County
deputies say officer Randy Vanderhoof was arrested Friday night
when a deputy noticed him sleeping in his car off south Highway 99
in Gladstone. Vanderhoof is a 19-year veteran of the department’s
K-9 unit.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) – An Oregon man has been killed in a
motorcycle crash in Idaho. State Police say a homemade three-wheel
motorcycle went off U.S. 95 south of New Meadows and rolled,
killing 49-year-old David Borst Jr. of Hillsboro. His passenger
Michelle Borst was taken to a hospital in Boise after the crash
Saturday night.

JOSEPH, Ore. (AP) – Ranchers in remote areas of eastern Oregon
say they’re skeptical about a state program that promises to
compensate them for cattle killed by gray wolves. Among those
ranchers is Denny Johnson, who has raised cattle for 32 years at
the foot of the Wallowa Mountains. He blames wolves for the deaths
of five of his cattle, including one valued at $5,000. State
wildlife officials say their investigations of wolf kills are
accurate, and Oregon will compensate ranchers for confirmed kills.

LEBANON, Ore. (AP) – An 88-year-old man is dead following a
tractor accident on his family farm in Linn County. Sheriff Tim
Mueller says Robert Fred Meyer was using a tractor to clear brush
Saturday when it rolled over as it went down a 15-foot embankment
and pinned him underneath. Mueller says Meyer was found later my
members of his family who called authorities to the scene near
