If you live near, or frequently cross, railroad tracks in Western Lane and Douglas Counties you’ve no doubt already noticed the maintenance and work crews that have been clearing tracks and repairing right of way. Those work trucks will shortly be replaced by slow moving freight trains, making it even more important that area residents use a little more caution when it comes to tracks.
Limited freight rail service on the Coos Bay rail line is expected to begin the first week in October. Officials with the owner of the line, the Oregon International Port of Coos Bay, say drivers need to be alert at crossings and pedestrians should not walk along the right-of-way.
