Records Office Moving

The Lane County Deeds & Records Office is moving back to the County’s Public Service Building at 8th and Oak in Eugene, starting Thursday, August 21st. The last day at its current location inside the Elections Office on 10th and Lincoln is Tuesday, August 19th. Services will be unavailable Wednesday the 20th during the transition. Once reopened, services like real property recording, marriage licenses, and the public research library will resume. The office will be open weekdays from 9 to noon and 1 to 4. The Elections Office will remain at its 10th Avenue location.

Scams

Summer may be a time to relax and travel, but scammers aren’t taking a vacation. Law enforcement scams are on the rise, with fraudsters pretending to be police or animal shelters demanding payment via bitcoin or gift cards. Always verify directly with official sources like the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. Vacation rental scams also spike this time of year—use trusted platforms and avoid wiring money. Be cautious of home improvement offers that seem too good to be true, and thoroughly vet contractors. Fake summer job postings and travel sweepstakes are also common. Protect yourself by verifying all offers, sellers, and employers before sending money or personal information.

Legislative Signings Complete

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek has issued her final vetoes and signing letters for bills passed during the 2025 legislative session. The announcement follows last week’s notice of potential vetoes under Article V, Section 15b of the Oregon Constitution. In a statement, Kotek thanked lawmakers and the public for their input, saying she considered all perspectives before making decisions in the best interest of the state. Among the vetoed bills is Senate Bill 976, which would have allowed individuals to verify cattle pregnancies without a veterinary license under specific conditions. Also vetoed was Senate Bill 1047, which would have expedited land-use water applications in Curry County. Governor Kotek approved House Bill 5006, which includes funding for the Willamette Falls Trust after the organization committed to meeting her expectations. A complete list of signed and vetoed bills, including House Bill 3428, is available on the Governor’s website.
