PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge has sentenced a Warm
Springs gang member to more than 15 years in prison for attempting
to kill a U.S. Marshal. Aldo Inez Antunez is already serving a
15-year sentence in state prison for attempted murder of Mardras
police officers. Prosecutors say the 33-year-old Antunez opened
fire on the marshal with a high-powered rifle as they tried to
arrest him at the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in 2010.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Dallas toddler shot in the stomach last
week is home and recovering. KPTV-TV reports 2-year-old Payton Flow
was unsupervised in a room with his 3-year-old brother on Friday

mother went off. Payton’s mother, Johnnie Williams, says she
usually leaves her gun in her car for protection, but on Friday
left the loaded weapon on a table in a room where the boys were
playing. Police in Dallas have not said whether they will file
charges against Payton’s parents.

yet determined whether twice-convicted murderer Gary Haugen can
waive his appeals and die by lethal injection. Judge Joseph Guimond
(guh-MOND’) relied on an evaluation by a Portland psychologist to
determine yesterday that Haugen is not suffering from a mental
condition that would impair his ability to make reasoned legal

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The leader of the U.S. branch of a defunct
Islamic charity has been sentenced to nearly three years in prison
after being convicted of helping to smuggle $150,000 to Saudi
Arabia. A judge said yesterday that while he has no doubt the money
went to Islamic fighters battling the Russian army in Chechnya,
there’s no proof directly linking Pete Seda to terrorism. The judge
sentenced Seda to 33 months in prison.
