EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Backup Seattle quarterback Charlie
Whitehurst threw a go-ahead 27-yard touchdown pass to Doug Baldwin,
and Brandon Browner returned an interception 94 yards to clinch the
Seahawks’ 36-25 victory over the New York Giants yesterday. Seattle
thwarted a late rally and scored more points in the first 12
minutes of this game than they did in the last two games against
New York, when they were outscored 85-13.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Seattle quarterback Tarvaris
Jackson was sidelined midway through the third quarter of
yesterday’s game against the New York Giants. Jackson gained 11
yards on a designed run, but came up holding his right shoulder. He
was examined on the sideline, then went to the locker room. Charlie
Whitehurst replaced Jackson, who was 15 for 22 for 1,661 yards, a
touchdown and an interception in the game.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) – Giants defensive captain Justin
Tuck and reserve running back Brandon Jacobs were inactive for New
York’s game against the Seattle Seahawks. Two-time Pro Bowler Osi
Umenyiora (OH’-see yoo-mihn-YOHR’-uh) returned from an injury last
week and started for Tuck. Seattle cornerback Marcus Trufant was
out with lower back spasms. He was replaced in the starting lineup
by Walter Thurmond. Seattle also was without receiver Mike Williams
because of a concussion. Ben Obomanu replaced him in yesterday’s

SEATTLE (AP) – Freddy Adu and Brian Carroll scored to help the
Philadelphia Union beat the Seattle Sounders 2-0 on Saturday,
giving the Los Angeles Galaxy their fourth Supporters’ Shield for
the best regular-season record in Major League Soccer. The Union
moved into first place in the Eastern Conference. Seattle fell to
16-7-9, while Los Angeles is 18-4-10. The Sounders entered the game
with a three-match MLS winning streak.
