Sonny Tupua carried the ball eight times for 145 yards and two touchdowns, plus caught a 45-yard touchdown pass as the Siuslaw Vikings downed the Brookings-Harbor Bruins 49-13 Thursday night. The Vikings led 42-7 at the half and were able to move the ball at will against the Bruins, accumulating just under 400 yards of offense in the first half. Neal Larson rushed for 34 yards on eight carries, but scored twice for Siuslaw. The Vikings remain undefeated with a 3-0 Far West League record, 6-0 overall.
Athlete of the Week
The Sports Club, the Siuslaw News, and Coast Radio Sports congratulate sophomore soccer standout Jason Garcia as this week’s Athlete of the Week. Jason scored a goal and had 2 assists in Saturday’s standoff against Waldport. Coach Londi Tomaro said Jason’s work in the midfield to win and maintain possession of the ball helped to keep Waldport at bay and kept the game close. His efforts have been instrumental in Siuslaw’s 6-0-1 season.
Honorable mention goes to senior cross country runner Hannah Rannow who exhibited strength and stamina in her strong second place finish at the Paul Mariman Invitational on Saturday.
