KEIZER, Ore. (AP) – A family of eight has escaped their burning
house in Keizer, but they have been left homeless by the two-alarm
fire. Fire officials say the homeowners smelled smoke and
discovered the fire as smoke detectors went off early this morning.
They called 911 and dispatchers told them to evacuate immediately.
The mother, father and six children – ages 7 months to 18 years –
are OK. Fire Chief Jeff Cowan says firefighters worked under fire
as some ammunition in the garage exploded.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A woman suffered burns to a hand in an
explosion that blew out a widow at her apartment in Portland last
night. Fire officials say the glass and window frame were blown
across the street, setting off a water sprinkler in the apartment.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the explosion. Damage
is estimated at $15,000.

FOREST GROVE, Ore. (AP) – Police and Washington County
detectives are investigating the suspicious death of a man in
Forest Grove. The Oregonian reports that officers who were asked to

and found him dead. He had not been seen or heard from for several
days. Police aren’t saying yet why the death is suspicious.
