PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber is preparing to give a
“state of the state” address in a speech at the Portland City
Club today. Kitzhaber’s office says the governor will lay out his
priorities for an upcoming legislative session. He is likely to
focus on advancing his proposals to significantly overhaul Oregon’s
health care and education systems.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police have arrested three teen
girls accused of slapping and hitting a 14-year-old girl on a light
rail train. The attack was captured on a choppy video that was
briefly posted on YouTube. Police say the girls — aged 18, 16 and
13 — were arrested last night for investigation of third-degree
assault, riot, disorderly conduct, harassment and interfering with
public transportation. Police tell The Oregonian the mother of two
of the girls was also arrested, accused of lying to police about
her daughters’ whereabouts.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police have arrested a Portland mother and
daughter accused of boarding a bus with invalid transfers, verbally
abusing the driver who asked them to leave and punching two people
who tried to intervene. Sgt. Pete Simpson says Tina Duckett and her
daughter Markishia Duckett were arrested for investigation of
assault and interfering with public transportation yesterday
afternoon.

NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard says two small pleasure
boats collided off the Oregon coast, injuring three of the six
people aboard and leaving the vessels entangled. Yesterday
afternoon’s crash left the bow of one vessel pinned underneath the
stern of the other off Newport. The three boaters on one vessel
were injured and the Coast Guard transferred them to medics on
shore. The three aboard the other boat were unhurt.
