PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 27-year-old man who had sex with a
15-year-old girl at a party with Lewis-McChord soldiers at a
Portland hotel has been sentenced to 13 months in prison. Stephan
James Bardos pleaded guilty in Multnomah County Circuit Court to
sexual abuse for having sex with the girl while she was
intoxicated. He was one of several Lewis-McChord soldiers at the
party last September where the girl and two of her friends were
invited.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The driver responsible for a crash that
left a young woman in a vegetative state has been convicted in
Portland of reckless driving, assault and DUI. The Oregonian
reports the jury returns to the Multnomah County courtroom today
for 54-year-old Jack Whiteaker’s sentencing. A term of about 10
years is expected. The crash injured Cayla Wilson who is now 21 and
under care at a rehabilitation center. She was pregnant at the
time. Her baby was born premature and is being raised by her
parents.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – One driver is dead after a rear-end
collision in Portland last night. Police say the man who died was
driving the car that rear-ended the other vehicle and then hit a
tree. A passenger in his car was taken to a hospital and is
expected to survive. The driver of the other car was treated at the
scene.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Umatilla County District Attorney Dan
Primas says he’s considering criminal charges in the possible
misuse of public funds in food services at the Two Rivers
Correctional Institution in Umatilla. The Oregonian reports food
services manager Mike W. Mathisen was on paid leave during an
investigation and resigned in November. Mathisen says he did not
misuse money and provided documents for the investigation.
