Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press
ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – Rescuers have found the body of a child from
an Albany creek where a car was swept away last night from a
grocery store parking lot. Fire Department spokeswoman Wanda Omdahl
says the search continues today for a missing adult. Another child
and a man were rescued last night, and the child is under treatment
at Oregon Health & Science University Hospital in Portland.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon wildlife officials say a mule found
dead in northeast Oregon was probably killed by wolves. Spokeswoman
Michelle Dennehy says the carcass was found last Friday on private
rangeland east of Joseph, in Wallowa County. Wildlife officials say
wolf tracks were found in nearby snow and data from a previously
collared wolf show he was a mile west of the site on the day the
dead mule was found.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Police in Oregon City say a husband and
wife have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Lt. Jim
Band says officers believe 56-year-old James “Mike” Hamel shot
his 66-year-old wife Rhonda, then himself. Band tells The Oregonian
that Rhonda Hamel had exhausted conventional treatments for cancer,
then turned to what he termed “extreme lengths” in hopes of
finding a cure. Police got a call from a relative who said Mike
Hamel had phoned to say his wife was “gone” and that he
“couldn’t take it anymore.”

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s unemployment is below 9 percent for
the first time in three years, but the total number of jobs has
remained relatively flat for 10 months. The state reported
yesterday that the jobless rate was 8.9 percent last month, the
lowest it’s been since November 2008. It ticked down from 9.1
percent the month before but remained higher than the national rate
of 8.5 percent.
