PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Democrat Suzanne Bonamici has won a
special congressional election to replace David Wu, an Oregon
Democrat who resigned last year after a woman accused him of making
an unwanted sexual advance. Bonamici was the favorite in a district
where Democrats outnumber Republicans and where President Barack
Obama enjoyed significant support in 2008. She defeated Republican
Rob Cornilles, the owner of a consulting business who said he was
best qualified to create jobs.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Some Oregon state employees are angry their
home email addresses were given to a state legislator. They were
concerned after receiving the email last week from Rep. Dennis
Richardson of Central Point asking for their opinion on how state
government could save money. The Statesman Journal reports
Richardson obtained the email addresses through a public records
request to state agencies. Richardson says he’ll delete names from
his email list from anyone who wants off.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A 24-year-old Oregon woman accused of
murdering her newborn has testified she faked the pregnancy and
falsely confessed to killing a baby boy because she wasn’t thinking
clearly. Angelica Swartout of Springfield gave a videotaped
confession in which she tearfully confessed to delivering and
smothering a baby in a workplace employee restroom on Oct. 18,
2010. She told police she threw the child in the garbage, sparking
a search of a landfill. No body was ever found.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A juvenile court judge decided Monday that
an 11-year-old boy who flashed a gun on a MAX train in Portland
last week will wear an electronic monitoring device and live with
his aunt. KATU reports the boy is the brother of Yashanee Vaughn, a
14-year-old who was killed last year. His mother told the judge
she’s dealing with grief and that the aunt could provide more
structure for her son. The state is certifying the aunt as a foster
parent.
